The affinity I have always felt towards
nature continues to fuel my creative drive.
The mass of a tree grouping, the
contrasting curve of a shoreline against a serene body of
water,
or the mood of a sky all still intrigue and
impassion me.
Simplification and balance of the
composition and level of detail, as well as economy and
segregation
of color and values are essential to me in
order to maximize their significance.
When I am feeling part of nature (seeking
to express myself more openly and clearly rather than
merely depicting it) I somehow become more
aware of what the painting wants to become.
In a sense, this even gets the landscape
out of the way of the expression, yet retains its essence.
